The extruded polystyrene

The extruded polystyrene (XPS) is a thermal insulation material used in the construction world. This material is supplied as large plates that can be applied to the insulation of walls, flat roofs, floors…

Extruded polystyrene has several advantages such as its compression and moisture resistance, light weight (density between 30 and 40 kg/m³)

It has also a high thermal insulation capacity, with a conductivity coefficient between 0.029 and 0.037 W / mK Its effectiveness is confirmed even for small thicknesses.

This insulator is highly resistant to water, cold and heat, it can ensure the insulation of conventional buildings or more stringent sites.

On the acoustic side, the XPS is however an inadequate insulator which precludes its use for this purpose. There is also the disadvantage of fragility face to fire where it is recommended to be associated with a non-combustible material such as plaster.
